Geel Apartment Treatment Program
This program is certified by New York State Office of Mental Health, providing support services to 54 adults diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness in a scatter-site, shared living setting. Our three-bedroom apartments are primarily located throughout the North Bronx. Residents have their own fully furnished bedrooms, and they share the common areas. The program engages residents in rehabilitative services consistent with the individual’s desire, tolerance, and capacity to participate in such services.
Geel’s Apartment Treatment Program provides for improved resident independence, choice and outcomes. This is fostered by the development and implementation of an individualized written service plan that is based upon psychiatric rehabilitation principles of participation and individual resident choice. These services focus on intensive, goal-oriented intervention with a client centered approach. The living environment is within a structured program setting, designed to address issued identified by the resident, specifically related to the residents’ needs: community integration, medication management, daily living skills and comprehensive services. The expected average length of stay is two years. Outpatient service providers and in-patient psychiatric facilities throughout the NYC area refer applicants for admission to the Apartment Treatment Program. All applications for housing must have an HRA 2010E approval for this level of housing and are submitted through the NYC CAPS portal.
