What We Do
Geel Community Services, Inc. is a voluntary agency funded by city and state contracts requiring that applicants choose to be placed within the agency. Geel Community Services, Inc. has helped put more than one thousand people on the path toward independence. We do it by offering safe, stable places to call home and a successful combination of reliable, dignified, hands-on supportive services.
Before coming to live with us, individuals apply for housing through the NYC Human Resources Administration and the Coordinated Assessment and Placement System. Applicants that are referred to Geel programs for housing will then be offered an interview to determine the appropriateness for this level of housing. Applicants will have the opportunity to view available units prior to being accepted. The referring professional will then notify the applicant of the outcome of the interview.
Geel’s supportive housing staff provide; daily living skills, case management, crisis intervention, service planning, community integration, symptom management, rehabilitative counseling, self-advocacy, linkages to mental and physical health providers, rehabilitation counseling, referrals to job and educational resources, and socialization activities.
